Artist statement
Kailasa Temple is one of the 34 temples, also known as caves, carved out of solid rock outside of Aurangabad, India. Collectively the temples are known as the Ellora Caves and are a UNESCO heritage site. Kailasa was on my “bucket list” ever since I saw a small black and white photo of it in my art history book. In 2019 I was fortunate enough to visit the site. This piece is my interpretation of Cave 16.
